Install guide

Getting started

Brevier is your own set of agents on your Mac. Brevier Server runs them and keeps your data. Brevier is the app you talk to them in.

What you need

Install both apps

  1. Open the disk image and drag Brevier and Brevier Server into Applications.
  2. Open Brevier Server from Applications. macOS says “Apple could not verify ‘Brevier Server’ is free of malware.” That’s expected: Brevier isn’t in Apple’s paid developer program. Click Done.
  3. Open System Settings, Privacy & Security, and scroll down to where it says Brevier Server was blocked. Click Open Anyway, enter your Mac’s password, then click Open Anyway once more.
  4. Do the same for Brevier the first time you open it. You only do this once per app. The disk image’s window shows these steps too.

Set up the server (Brevier Server’s window, three steps)

  1. Your data stays on this Mac. Click Continue.
  2. Connect Claude. Click Get Claude: it downloads Claude Code, Anthropic’s own program, straight from Anthropic. Then click Open Claude’s sign-in. Your browser opens Anthropic’s page: sign in and click Authorize, then come back. The window notices by itself and shows “Signed in”. Brevier never sees your password or your account. No Claude plan? There’s a small link to use an API key instead.
  3. Keep your agents running. Click Turn on. macOS says background items were added, and it may call them “node”. Those are Brevier: leave them on. Keep this Mac on and awake if you want routines to run.

Pair the app

The last screen says This Mac is ready. Click Show pairing code. In Brevier, choose Pair with a server and type the six digits. The code is good for 10 minutes. Then Brevier asks your name (you can skip it), helps you make your first agent, and you can say hello.

Let agents use this Mac (optional)

In Brevier Server’s window, on the Let agents use this Mac row, click Set up. It installs Brevier Hands, the small helper that sees and clicks for your agents. Then click Open System Settings and switch on Screen Recording and Accessibility for Brevier Hands. When you come back, the row asks you to click Restart to finish: do that, and agents can use this Mac. Later, macOS may ask whether Brevier Hands may control an app such as Safari or Finder: allow the ones you want agents to use.

Packages

In Brevier: Settings, Packages. The core (chat, agents, memory, routines, updates, computer use) is already there. Install extras with Install. Mail and the other optional packages read “not available yet” in this Beta.

Updates

For now, each new version comes to you the same way: a new disk image. Quit Brevier, drag the new Brevier into Applications and replace the old one. Brevier Server keeps its version until updates go live; we’ll tell you when that happens. “Check for updates” says there are none yet, which is expected.

If something goes wrong

Write to [email protected]: what you did, what you expected, what happened, and a screenshot. Brevier Server’s menu-bar icon has Open logs if we ask for a log file. Look through a log before you send it: it can hold names of your files and agents.

What Brevier sends where

What you say to your agents, and the files and pages they read while working, go to Anthropic under your own Claude account, the same as if you used Claude Code yourself. Claude Code also sends Anthropic its own usage reports. Nothing comes to us. The apps check updates.brevier.org for updates, a plain download with no name or account attached. Brevier also uses your Claude plan in the background, to keep your agents’ memory tidy and to run the routines you set up.
